Jean Mayer - A Collection of Works

Versatility and extraordinary abundance characterizes decades of Jean Mayer’s unique work: Besides practical and purposeful items, one can find her work in lawns and gardens, wall reliefs and sculptures in public buildings and educational institutions in her kibbutz and elsewhere in the country. The works of various 20th-century artists come to mind while perusing Jean’s creations; sculptors Jean Arp, Constantine Brancusi, Henry Moor, and Barbara Hepworth, and the pottery of Bernard Leach Lucie Rei and Hans Coper are all reflected in Jean’s work. Unique English features are manifested in all her creations – the refinement of the nature of gestures and shapes, the emphasis on accuracy, the rational simplicity, the meticulous control of the design, and in the use of quiet and harmonious colors. However, it is also evident that her designs include personal attitudes in the almost classic forms, and the subtle diversity of color.
